Local capacities and ecosystem services in the Gran Chaco
The objective of this project is to build local capacities in the community of the Diocese of Añatuya, one of the country’s most inhospitable regions, by restoring the capacity to produce forest-based goods and ecosystem services.
The strategy is based on the planting and sustainable management of white carob (Prosopis alba) as the main species, integrating restoration, green employment, community production and carbon capture.
500,000 trees to restore, enrich and capture carbon
The project proposes planting, reforesting and enriching native forests with a tree cover of 500,000 trees in yellow and green zones under the Forest Law, across 1,248 hectares of the bishopric’s El Majan property.
The objective is to establish a CO2 sink for 30 years, sharing with the community the products derived from forest fruits and involving it in the forest’s monitoring, maintenance and care throughout the period.
Brands, commercialization and venture follow-up
The project’s long-term goal is to create product brands, training, commercialization channels and follow-up for ventures associated with the development of forestry production, strengthening the community through the forest’s ecosystem goods and services.
